The World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Programme provides an international framework for the planning and sustainable management of tourism at World Heritage properties by fostering awareness, improving management stakeholder capacities and full participation of local communities. The goal of this programme is to protect World Heritage properties and their Outstanding Universal Value, while ensuring that tourism contributes to the sustainable development of local communities taking a destination approach to tourism management. This partnership is instrumental to the activities of the Programme providing support for strategy development.
