The region is home to a rich and diverse documentary heritage that reflects the cultures, histories, traditions and values which also registered under the UNESCO Memory of the World (MOW) Programme. Member states under Jakarta continues to face persistent challenges in terms of difficulties in securing and having sustained resources, timely and quality preservation action, and utilization of technology in the preservation, making it difficult to the realization of sustainable preservation of documentary heritage. Additionally, none of the Memory of the World Registers in Jakarta cluster countries can be considered as documentary heritage that contributes to gender equality.
