Project ID 914BRZ3047

The decline in fertility rates in Brazil in the last decade has had profound implications upon the demographic trend of its pyramid with a clear trend towards a growing elderly population. If the current trend continues, the Brazilian Institute of Statistics and Geography (IBGE) estimates that by 2050 the age segment above 60 years old will represent 30% of the total Brazilian population. UNESCO's ideals of lifelong learning, education for all (EFA), media literacy and acess to culture and science as fundamental human rights are few of the areas where the Brazilian Government could benefit from UNESCO's expertise.
