The project aims at ensuring that communities, households, and livelihoods in two disaster prone historic cities in Yemen are better protected, prepared and aware of disaster risk reduction measures. UNESCO will provide urgent assistance to local authorities and vulnerable communities in the Old City of Sana'a and the Old Walled City of Shibam, through the establishment of an early warning system in the Old Walled City of Shibam, strengthening the existing early warning system in in the Old City of Sana'a, increasing the communities' disaster risk reduction awareness, and initiating the preparatory phase for the establishment of a Flood Risk Management Information System.
