The COVID19 pandemic affected women in a differentiated pattern, deepening existing gender gaps and causing a significant setback in terms of human rights and gender equality. Such impact has been more evident in employment, in the accentuated burden regarding care work and reproductive work, or in relation to a greater exposure of women to cases of physical, psychological, sexual, and patrimonial violence. The pandemic had an especially severe impact on women who face multiple discrimination, based on race, ethnicity, age, disability, and other factors, deepening pre-existing gaps and challenges. Extreme violence against women is femicide/feminicide. In Latin America and the Caribbean, there are 14 of the 25 countries with the highest number of femicides/feminicides in the world
