Despite the fact that the 2003 Convention has been ratified by all the countries of the Cluster, multiple regional and national initiatives in the field of ICH and the strong political awareness, community-based approaches to ICH safeguarding in the region are not systematic and contextualized efforts in inventorying and safeguarding are lacking. This programme aims at responding to the needs of stakeholders and communities in the GCC and Yemen to further strengthen capacities for safeguarding of ICH, developing partnerships, networking and monitoring mechanisms for the implementation of the 2003 Convention, in particular in the context of the in the roll-out of the periodic reporting cycle in the Arab States in 2022.
