Accelerating climate change and expanding human uses exert tremendous pressures on marine ecosystems. Combined effects of climate change (CC) and other stressors, in particular eutrophication and deoxygenation, were reported for marine productivity, biodiversity and species distribution. There is a need to understand/quantify further the effects of CC on the marine biota of the world's oceans, on ecosystems goods and services and on social-ecological systems. Main actions under this activity will include the implementation of the Ocean Decade Global Ocean Oxygen Decade programme, the provision of guiding principles for multiple stressor research and new assessments focusing on pollution and changing phytoplankton communities.
