The Western Pacific and its adjacent areas hold vast environmental, social and economic value to humans' livelihoods and prosperities. This activity aims to contribute to the Output 3.IOC1 Member States critically supported in strengthening their capacity to conduct marine scientific research, generate knowledge, and develop and implement science-based tools, services, and policies in order to reverse the decline in ocean health and accelerate the transition towards sustainable management of ocean-related risks and opportunities. Though this activity carried out by the IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC), UNESCO and its IOC's leadership in marine science development and cooperation will be further strengthened in the region.
