The Prize has been established in 2002 and to be renewed in 2016, the UNESCO/Emir Jaber al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah Prize aims at rewarding outstanding activities of individuals, organizations or centres that promote inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities in society. The Prize is awarded every two years (USD 40.000). The document for the renewal of the Prize is submitted for the approval of the Executive Board of UNESCO at its 199th session. Available funds amounting USD 251,948 will be used for the 1st circle (2016/17) and 2nd circle (2018/19) of the Prize. Additional financial contribution for the 3rd circle (2020/21) will be provided by the Government of Kuwait.
