The project aims to improve the protection of World Heritage sites and other important heritage sites in Lao PDR, which are significant drivers of sustainable socio-economic development in the country. It will operate on two streams: (1) a Luang Prabang stream, aimed at supporting the urgent impact assessment process and subsequent implementation of mitigation measures at the World Heritage town and its surrounding, and (2) a national stream, including development of improved measures for Impact Assessment and investment review affecting heritage sites within a multi-sectoral approach using the convening power of the UN.
