The activity supports the preservation, access and promotion of documentary heritage in Africa through the implementation of Memory of the World and the 2015 UNESCO Recommendation on Documentary Heritage.The activity will enhance national capacity to identify significant documentary heritage collections from Africa, increase their visibility through the inscription to the International Register, as well as sharing of knowledge through inter-regional cooperation with Asia and the Pacific. The activity will also leverage the use of open solutions, including free and open source software for archival management, open licensing frameworks for the use of digitized materials, and open education resources on documentary heritage, to engage with the custodians of documentary heritage in Africa.
