CorSeaCare Mission

A citizens' movement has set up a platform to study and experiment with marine environmental issues in Corsica. A true laboratory of ideas to raise awareness among young people.

The biodiversity of marine ecosystems is under threat in the Mediterranean. However, the Corsican association Mare Vivu noted a lack of awareness and knowledge of these issues. Five years ago, this eco-citizen platform launched the CorSeaCare mission.
The aim is to create a laboratory of ideas and a platform for experimentation dedicated to young people. Their ambition? To create a generation of young experts in environmental projects, aware of the challenges and prepared to tackle them.

Scientific and educational mission

CorSeaCare is an annual scientific and educational mission. Using sailing and pedal-powered kayaks, a team travels the 1,000 kilometers of Corsican coastline for 1 month. It collects useful data for the scientific community. This mission is conducted in collaboration with research centers (CNRS, Ifremer…).
For example, these missions enabled the characterization of over 15,000 different types of waste during mapping surveys at sea along Corsica's entire western coastline.
The aim is to implement and pass on innovative solutions to help the general public, and the younger generation in particular, become aware of the environmental challenges facing our ecosystems.

CorSeaCare is now in its sixth mission. It has become a popular event in the Mediterranean. Today, the team is determined to go even further.
