UNESCO's global priorities are Africa and Gender Equality. As such, UNESCO and development partners are attentive to 54 African countries with a stronger and better-targeted strategy. The African Renaissance is underway, with the adoption of the African Union Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development paving the ground for the African Economic Community. To this end, regional communities are consolidating ties.

Priority Africa in Action 2022-2023

The Operational Strategy for Priority Africa 2022-2029UNESCO's Operational Strategy for Priority Africa 2022-2029 has been in implementation for over a year now.The strategy’s ambition is to respond to the issues and challenges of African development as defined by Africans themselves. Its five flagship programmes contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the African Union's Agenda 2063 "The Africa We Want".The main areas of intervention have been coordinating the implementation of the Strategy, capacity building, knowledge production, partnership and stakeholder outreach, visibility and advocacy. The initial results from the implementation of the Operational Strategy are positive, but much remains to be done to achieve all the objectives set and to meet expectations
