Melbourne launches the “Tramlines” literature podcast series

Starting from 8 May, Melbourne, a UNESCO Creative City of Literature, will launch the next series of the podcast entitled “Tramlines”, an initiative aiming to promote the city’s creative community and literary talents. Accessible and free, the podcast series revolves around the theme of the public transport experience and comprises of unique pieces of writing and stories to be listened to on the tram. Tailoring stories and audios to specific tramlines and specific stops, each episode brings storytelling to every tram journey, inviting the passengers to immerse themselves in the literary possibilities offered by public transport and connecting them with Melbourne’s creative community.

The podcast series is a multi-disciplinary and joint initiative which involved the collaboration of a diverse group of creative practitioners, including 7 writers, 1 producer, 2 voice artists, 1 musician and 1 editor, and was a unique opportunity for the sharing of knowledge, skills and experiences between participants.

By connecting culture with inhabitants’ everyday life, Melbourne’s “Tramlines” podcast showcases the role of creativity in urban development and the various approaches possible for strengthening access to and participation in cultural life.

The podcast series will be launched weekly, starting 8 May 2023 and will be available on Spotify, Apple and Google as well as at the following link: https://cityofliterature.com.au/tramlines/
