About the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu

Aligned with core Nepali development priorities, the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu collaborates within the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework as its primary reference. Across its mandate, the organization supports inclusive and quality education for all, promotes the nation's rich natural and cultural heritage alongside emerging creative industries, mobilizes scientific knowledge for development, advocates for press freedom and freedom of expression, promotes media and information literacy, and addresses hate speech and misinformation. Indigenous communities and Nepali youth, particularly young women and girls, constitute its core constituencies.

Communication and Information Volunteer

Duration: Six months 

Location: Kathmandu, Nepal

Organizational Unit: Communication and Information Unit 

No. of volunteers required: 1 

DESCRIPTION of the Volunteer Service

  • Communications support to CI Unit at UNESCO Kathmandu Office. 
  • Support to organise events, workshops and meetings and production and streamlining of knowledge products.
  • Design and implement different outreach and advocacy materials in consultation with programme unit.
  • Support to draft social media contents for – Facebook, twitter, Youtube, Instagram and assist to conduct virtual/hybrid events as well as Facebook live as per need.
  • Draft news stories, press release and other visibility materials.
  • Carry out desk research and support programme to make success stories  
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor and or head of the Office. 
UNESCO volunteer_Communication Information_TOR_2024

Communications volunteer

Duration: Six months 

Location: Nepal

Organizational Unit: Communications 

No. of volunteers required: 1 

DESCRIPTION of the Volunteer Service

  • Support in producing human interest, success stories, case studies for different past and ongoing projects/programmes
  • Support in writing and editing web content for the UNESCO Kathmandu website
  • Preparation and dissemination of press releases, publications/reports etc
  • Participation in events, production and streamlining of knowledge products in different programme sectors
  • Design and implement different outreach and advocacy materials in consultation with programme units and projects
  • Graphics: social media, banner (event), posters, infographics etc
  • Support in handling UNESCO Nepal's social media channels with relevant content and updates 
  • Support in Photography/ videography, editing as needed

Indigenous Engagement volunteer

Duration: Six months (starting end of March)

Location: Kathmandu, Nepal

Organizational Unit:  Natural Sciences 

DESCRIPTION of the Volunteer Service

  • Support in communicating and coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Support in writing and editing reports
  • Preparation and execution of events, coordination and participation in the same.
  • Support in drafting web stories based on the events and activities of the natural sciences sector.
