UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations meets H.E. Mr Ahmad Pakatchi, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Islamic Republic of Iran

On 21 November, Mr Anthony Ohemeng-Boamah, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations at UNESCO, met with H.E. Mr Ahmad Pakatchi, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Islamic Republic of Iran to UNESCO.

On this occasion, the Assistant Director-General expressed concern about the recent sentencing of two of the three Laureates of 2023 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize, journalists Ms. Niloofar Hammedi and Ms. Elaheh Mohammadi, as well as on the case of the third Laureate, Ms. Narges Mohammadi, also Laureate of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize. The Ambassador took note of the concerns raised.
