On Tuesday 30 April, IIEP-UNESCO Director Martín Benavides and OEI Secretary-General Mariano Jabonero signed an agreement in Madrid to foster cooperation between States and promote access to quality education for all people in the region.

UNESCO's International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) signed an agreement to promote access to inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all people in Ibero-America.

This collaboration seeks to facilitate and promote the exchange of information and communication between states; develop collective initiatives in educational planning, technical cooperation and research; and strengthen the capacities of ministries of education in the region.

"We are delighted to join hands once again with the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture,” said IIEP-UNESCO Director Martín Benavides.  “This fruitful partnership will allow us to advance together towards the goals of the Education 2030 Agenda by building the capacities of ministries of education and partners in educational planning and management across the region.”

“We thank UNESCO once again for the trust placed in our organization, which this year celebrates its 75th anniversary working for the development and continuous improvement of education in our region,” said Mariano Jabonero, Secretary-General of the OEI, who also noted that this alliance will contribute to “strengthening communication and the exchange of information between States to jointly face the current challenges of Ibero-American education.”

In recent years, IIEP-UNESCO and the OEI have worked on joint initiatives for the fulfillment of the Education 2030 Agenda, the strengthening of networks between educational institutions and collaboration in research, technical assistance, and training for inclusive, equitable, and quality education in Ibero-America.
