This workshop is organized within the framework of UNESCO’s Fit for Life initiative, engineering smart investments in sport as a driver of broad social outcomes.

Gender inequality is a critical problem that is deeply ingrained in society. At present, girls and young women (aged between 5 and 30 years old) continue to experience educational inequality, exposure to violence, and unequal access to sports and physical activity, among other forms of discrimination.

The ‘Fit for Life Workshop: Empowering Girls and Young Women through Sport’ will provide a unique opportunity to share good practices and discuss needs concerning the empowerment of girls and women in and through sport. The outcomes of discussions will inform the development of the next phases of Fit for Life, including the global sport baseline study and national implementation plans.

The workshop is one of several milestones on the road to the upcoming Seventh International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VII), to be held from 14 to 17 March 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
