UNESCO seeks to reinforce the role of sport as a catalyst for social transformation and human development. It also acts on issues concerning the use of prohibited substances in high level sports (doping).

With the approaching Summer Olympic Games in 2016 UNESCO in Brazil will reinforce its catalysing role for actions that use sport as an instrument for social integration and for building a culture of peace.
