Our moderator-driven discussions seek to promote focused discussions on crucial themes in TVET development and aim to gather valuable input from the TVeT Forum community.

In this edition of UNESCO-UNEVOC’s virtual conferences, the discussion focuses on Return on Investment (ROI) in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The conference took place from 9 to 16 May 2016 on the UNESCO-UNEVOC TVeT Forum.

The virtual conference seeks to inform the wider TVET community about a current research project currently undertaken by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) in Australia. Importantly, it is an opportunity for the community to share their ideas, expertise and experiences with the research team to strengthen and validate the initial bases for measuring ROI and identifying indicators.

With this in mind, the virtual conference addressed the following questions:

• How could information on ROI benefit TVET systems?
• Which types of ROI are most important or relevant?
• What are some of the challenges when comparing ROI in TVET across different countries? How do we take into account the differing political, cultural and educational contexts when comparing returns?
• What data sources are currently available in your country to measure the ROI in TVET? What are the gaps and how can these gaps be addressed?

6 July 2016 Virtual conference on Youth Entrepreneurship In the ongoing edition of UNESCO-UNEVOC’s virtual conferences, we are discussing youth entrepreneurship in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The conference is taking place from 18 to 29 July 2016 on the UNESCO-UNEVOC TVeT Forum. (more)

20 May 2016 Over 200 participants discuss Return on Investment in TVET From 9 to 16 May, 2016, UNESCO-UNEVOC organized a virtual conference on return on investment in TVET. The virtual conference, moderated by the NCVER in Australia, informed the wider TVET community about ROI in TVET and was an opportunity for the community to share their ideas, expertise and experiences on the topic (more)

17 February 2016 Just published: Virtual conference report on the 'UNESCO TVET strategy 2016-2021' The virtual conference report on the "UNESCO TVET strategy 2016-2021" is now online. The virtual conference took place from 28 September to 03 October 2015 on UNESCO-UNEVOC’s e-forum and brought together 165 participants from 57 countries. (more)

1 December 2015 Just published: Virtual conference report on ‘Delivering TVET through Quality Apprenticeships’ The virtual conference report on “Delivering TVET through Quality Apprenticeships” is now online. The two-week virtual conference took place from 15 to 26 June 2015 on UNESCO-UNEVOC’s e-forum and brought together 229 participants from 70 countries. (more)

2 November 2015 UNEVOC Virtual Conference: Greening TVET in the context of climate change policy developments Online conference moderated by Dr Nick Sofroniou, Principal Research Fellow at Institute for Employment Research of the University of Warwick and an expert in green skills development. 6 October 2015 Just published: Virtual conference report on 'Skills for the creative industries' The virtual conference report on 'Skills for creative industries' has just been published. The conference took place from 29 September to 10 October 2014 and attracted 153 participants from 64 countries. (more)

17 September 2015 Virtual Conference: UNESCO’s future TVET strategy From 28 September to 3 October, you will have the chance to participate in our next virtual conference on UNESCO’s future strategy for TVET (2016-2021). This online conference will be moderated by Mike Campbell, an expert in the fields of skills, labour markets and the economy. (more)

29 May 2015 Virtual conference: Delivering TVET through Quality Apprenticeships From 15 to 26 June 2015, you will have the chance to participate in our next virtual conference on “Delivering TVET through Quality Apprenticeships". This online conference will be moderated by Alessandra Molz, an international consultant and researcher on skills development and the labour market. (more)

1 October 2014 Just published: Revising the 2001 Revised Recommendation concerning Technical and Vocational Education This report provides a synthesis of the discussions during the special virtual conference held from 1 to 14 April 2014 on the UNEVOC e-Forum and moderated by Simon McGrath. The report outlines the key themes that were raised and features a set of recommendations concerning the scope, objectives and themes of the recommendation concerning TVE. (more)

26 September 2014 Just published: Vocational Pedagogy: what it is, why it matters and how to put it into practice This report provides a synthesis of the discussions held during the virtual conference held from 12 to 26 May 2014 on the UNEVOC e-Forum and moderated by Professor Bill Lucas. The discussions illustrated the importance of vocational pedagogy in improving learner outcomes in TVET, as well its role as a catalyst for raising the status and quality of TVET. (more)

9 December 2013 Just published: e-Forum synthesis report on tackling youth unemployment through TVET From 25 June to 9 July 2013, over 300 participants from 80 countries gathered on the UNEVOC e-Forum to discuss how TVET can address growing numbers of youth unemployment. TVET experts, policy makers, researchers, practitioners and most importantly young students and graduates joined the discussion. (more)
