Haiti, Côte d'Ivoire, Darfur — 30 March-5 April 2011

A member of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti was killed 30 March 2011 while on patrol.
An information analyst with UNOCI, Côte d'Ivoire, was killed by a stray bullet 31 March 2011.
A peacekeeper with UNAMID, in Darfur, was killed 5 April 2011, after being abducted.

On 30 March 2011, Captain Sultan Al Shraah of Jordan, a member of the police contingent of the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), was killed on patrol in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

On 30 March 2011, Charles Uy from the Philippines, working with MONUSCO, died in a traffic accident in Entebbe (Uganda), where the UN has a logistics base.

On 31 March, Zahra Abidi of Sweden died after being hit by a stray bullet in Abidjan, the strife-torn commercial capital of Côte d'Ivoire. She was an information analyst with the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI).

On 5 April, a group of armed men ambushed a patrol from the Joint United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur. The blue helmets returned fire, killing one of the attackers, but the attackers managed to carjack a UNAMID vehicle containing three peacekeepers. Two of the three were later released, but the third was killed.
