Ensuring Adequate, Efficient & Equitable Financing in Schools: School Finance in the Asia-Pacific Region (UNESCO Asia-Pacific Education Thematic Brief, January 2017)

Funding is one of the major challenges faced by schools in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the new UNESCO study with 10 countries in Asia-Pacific, schools are not receiving adequate funding and increase in government expenditures has slowed recently. This thematic brief, summarizes the key results, analyzes school finance issues and provides general recommendations to ensure adequate, efficient and equitable financing in schools. The brief is based on the findings of the upcoming UNESCO-Bangkok publication entitled ‘Regional Report on School Finance in the Asia-Pacific’, participated by 10 countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Uzbekistan and China) in the region.
