Understanding inclusion and participation in working with youth

Ha Noi, 12 October 2017 – With the ever-growing role of youth in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, UNESCO and UNFPA jointly led a two-day workshop from 11-12 October on strengthening the inclusion of young people within the review of youth policies and frameworks. Based on UNESCO’s toolkit “Developing Evidence-Based, Participatory, Gender Equal and Socially Inclusive Youth Policies in Southeast Asia,” participants identified solutions to strengthen the voice of youth in policy development.

Over 1000 students, teachers and education officials join hands to promote gender equality in schools and communities

Ha Noi, 26 September 2017 – School communication campaigns in Nghe An and Ha Giang Province, two of the most disadvantaged provinces in Viet Nam, empowered teachers and students to take initiative in bringing members of the community together to discuss and address gender inequalities that persist in their homes, community and educational environment on 14 September and 25 September respectively.

UNESCO Director-General fostering greater collaboration with Viet Nam and One UN

Ha Noi, 25 August 2017 – During joint reviews of existing cooperation with national authorities, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova has emphasized the Organization’s readiness to exploring new possibilities for programming to meet emerging priorities for Viet Nam. With UN partners, the recent relocation of the Organization to the Green One UN House demonstrates that the Organization is committed to doing so within the Delivering as One Initiative.

First UNESCO Category 2 Centres in Viet Nam officially inaugurated

Ha Noi, 24 August 2017 – Following the official signing ceremony led by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and the Minister of Science of Technology of Viet Nam, H.E. Chu Ngoc Anh, the International Centre of Research and Postgraduate Training in Mathematics and the International Centre of Physics are now recognized as Category 2 Centres under the auspices of UNESCO.

Preliminary findings on teacher policies in mountainous and disadvantaged areas in Viet Nam

Ha Noi, 1 August 2017 – The Department of Teachers and Education Administrator (DTEA), Ministry of Education and Training, presented preliminary analysis and recommendations concluded from a survey on the impact of teacher policies on primary and secondary education in disadvantaged areas. The survey completed in June 2017 provides a foundation for policy recommendations to better address the needs of teachers and learning environments in impoverished regions of Viet Nam.

Hoi An hosts International Conference on Urban Heritage Conservation and Development

Hoi An City, 14 June 2017 – With the participation of the Government of Viet Nam, experts, UNESCO and UN Habitat, an international conference on Urban Heritage Conservation and Development was organized for the review of the Hoi An Declaration 2003 and 2009 on Conservation of Historic Districts in Asia and evaluation of progress achieved. Collected review and analysis of the Declarations contributed to the development of the 2017 Hoi An Declaration on Urban Heritage Conservation and Development in Asia.
