The WHO Regional Office for Eastern Mediterranean conducted a situation analysis to assess the health education capacity, programmes and activities in Member States of the Region. The findings of the assessment showed a number of persisting challenges. This study, commissioned by the Association of African Universities, was conducted to identify the strengths, constraints and opportunities for addressing the human resource and policy challenges occassioned by the HIV and AIDS pandemic. A sample of between 12 and 15 institutions which exemplified best practices in the response to HIV and AIDS in Africa was identified. In documenting and disseminating these examples, it is hoped that other institutions will benefit from the sharing of new knowledge and contribute to the overall strengthening of the response to the epidemic. …

This is a do-it-yourself manual to assist concerned government officials and members of civil society to design and implement their own advocacy initiatives. Though specific examples have been designed for population and reproductive health advocacy issues in the South Pacific countries, the manual can serve as a guide to advocacy for other issues in other places.
