2018-2022 Ministry of Education Strategic Plan

IIEP flux fr && en - Wed, 02/27/2019 - 09:43
Body:

As part of the Ministry of Education's  commitment and dedication in supporting the Wawasan Brunei 2035 to produce educated, highly skilled and accomplished people, the ministry  will launch its 5-Year Strategic Plan 2018-2022 at the upcoming School Leaders Convention Feb 2019. In the plan, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education stated that the plan "… aims to ensure our education system stays pertinent and continues to deliver value to the national aspiration." The document is a blueprint of how the ministry would achieve this aim.

Strategic Plan Overview

VISION: Quality Education, Dynamic Nation
The Ministry of Education is committed in providing equitable quality education guided by the values of Malay Islamic Monarchy to develop future-ready citizens who are equipped with knowledge and skills of the 21st century. The priority is to develop students to become positive and responsible individuals who can contribute positively to the nation.
A dynamic nation is defined here as a knowledge-based society where knowledgeable and highly skilled citizens can quickly adapt to the constantly changing environment and continue to participate in and contribute to a dynamic economy, maintaining the country's competitive advantage; towards a stable and sustainable economic, social and political development.

MISSION: To deliver holistic education to achieve fullest potential for all

As a professional and dynamic organisation, the ministry will provide a holistic education system through a meaningful curriculum and relevant education programmes implemented with attention given to students. This is to be delivered through a series of key development stages, from early childhood to post-secondary education ultimately with professional quality teachers. They will develop our learners to become proud Bruneians with strong foundation values and character to enable them to actively contribute to the nation.

Based on a review of the ministry's strategic direction and contribution from all relevant stakeholders, strategic objectives have been identified to outline ministerial efforts in the plan.

These strategic objectives are three broad actions that will be pursued to achieve the ministry's vision and mission. They will set the focus and guide strategies and actions over the next five years. This means that the ministry will continue to evaluate its strategies, leverage on opportunities and strengths in addressing any future gaps and constraints to stay responsive and relevant to our focus.

Government announces proposals for the Reform of Vocational Education

IIEP flux fr && en - Mon, 02/18/2019 - 14:24

Consultation will run over the next six weeks, until 27 March 2019.

The consultation is being run jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), and is being led by TEC Chief Executive Tim Fowler.

“I encourage everyone with an interest in education in this country to take part in this consultation. We will be holding regional events throughout the country and look forward to talking about the proposals and listening to your feedback,” said Tim Fowler.

Following consultation, Cabinet will decide on the proposed changes mid-2019, with a view to legislation being introduced later this year.

Throughout the consultation students, both domestic and international, can continue to enrol and study in quality-assured programmes across New Zealand. Courses will continue, qualifications will be awarded and recognised, there is no impact from this on fees free study, fees are not going up due to the proposals, and international students’ visa status will not change.

The TEC and the Ministry will work with industry, Industry Training Organisations and the Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITP) sector to design the details of the new system and manage the transition to minimise the impact on learners and staff.

Please see the Reform of Vocational Education page on Kōrero Mātauranga for further information about the consultation including:

  • Consultation documents, including factsheets
  • Engagement events
  • Papers and briefings that relate to the Reform of Vocational Education

Supporting students with disability

IIEP flux fr && en - Mon, 02/18/2019 - 10:02
Saturday 16 February 2019 Media Release The Hon Dan Tehan MP
  • Minister for Education

School students with disability will receive better support to reach their full potential with new learning resources for teachers, school leaders, support staff and parents.

The Morrison Government is providing more than $28 billion to support students with disability as part of its record schools funding package of $307.7 billion.

More than 724,000 students received additional funding or additional support through the disability loading in 2017.

Minister for Education Dan Tehan today launched a $4 million information portal to support educating students with disability.

"Our Government believes that every Australian deserves access to a top-quality education," Mr Tehan said.

"That is why the Morrison Government is providing record funding to all Australian schools including extra money to support students with disability.

"The new interactive portal will make it easier for education professionals to access advice and guidance on what they can do to ensure students with disability are given every opportunity to learn and succeed.

"Teachers will be able to access professional learning modules, podcasts, and other resources for self-directed and blended learning through the portal. There are also videos, infographics and parent information."

The interactive portal will have information for teachers about how to complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD), the Disability Standards for Education 2005 and the adjustments provided to support students with disability in their learning, as well as referrals to other services and disability assistance.

The NCCD Portal is available at www.nccd.edu.au

Inclusive education website helps teachers support learners with disabilities

IIEP flux fr && en - Tue, 02/12/2019 - 17:17

With this in mind we’ve revamped the Inclusive Education website.

Inclusive Education

There are 26 guides on the site that take some of the mystery out of meeting the needs of learners with disabilities. The strategies in the guides help Year 1-13 teachers and school leaders recognise, plan for and meet the learning and wellbeing needs of all learners. The site includes guides relating to dyslexia, ASD and ADHD.

Parents have also found the site useful for understanding teaching approaches that work for their child. Parents and teachers can work together to identify approaches that will work and to reinforce these at home.

The site does not replace people or resourcing. It complements the services and support that schools receive and connects teachers, school leaders and parents with what others are doing in this space.

Inform our regional education strategy

IIEP flux fr && en - Wed, 01/23/2019 - 15:38
Wednesday 23 January 2019 Media Release The Hon Dan Tehan MP
  • Minister for Education

Minister for Education Dan Tehan has encouraged Australians to have their say on the National Regional, Rural and Remote Education Strategy.

The strategy aims to increase tertiary education participation and outcomes for people in regional, rural and remote Australia.

"Young Australians living in regional areas are half as likely to have a university level qualification as those living in cities," Mr Tehan said.

"This inequality must be addressed by improving access to higher education.

"We want to hear practical ideas about how to get more people living in regional and remote areas into higher education and vocational training."

The Government established a Regional Education Expert Advisory Group, chaired by the Hon Dr Denis Napthine, as part of its recent $134.8 million regional higher education package.

"The Morrison Government is focussed on keeping our regions strong by supporting the operation of regional university and vocational education providers," Mr Tehan said.

A Framing Paper has been released to inform consultation on the strategy. Submissions are due by 5pm on Friday 1 February 2019, and should be emailed to regionalstrategy@education.gov.au

The responses will inform the development of a National Regional, Rural and Remote Education Report on priority recommendations for action.

The Framing Paper is available at https://docs.education.gov.au/documents/national-regional-rural-and-remote-education-strategy-framing-paper

New Year Message: Prime Minister announces free access to tertiary education in all public institutions

IIEP flux fr && en - Fri, 01/18/2019 - 11:20
GIS - 03 January, 2019: The future of the country rests on its youth and Government has come up with a historical measure which is free access to tertiary education in all public institutions. This governmental measure will be implemented as from this year and will be applicable for those opting for certificate, diploma and degree courses, both on full time and part time basis. The Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth made this announcement during his New Year message to the Nation on 01 January 2019.   In his address, Prime Minister Jugnauth highlighted the major achievements and priority projects for year 2018 while also emphasising on Government’s continued commitment with regard to promoting an equitable, safe and harmonious society.   After 50 years of Independence, he underlined, Mauritius has come a long way and various measures have been put in place last year in line to enhancing the daily lives of citizens and reducing the gap between rich and poor. These measures comprise the introduction of the National Minimum Wage to provide decent salary to workers; the Negative Income Tax; and the decrease in the income tax rate from 15% to 10% for those earning between Rs 305,000 and Rs 650,000 annually. More than 100,000 families have benefitted from these measures which have uplifted their status at work, he added.   Some of the measures for 2019 include the provision of a salary compensation of Rs 400 to some 463,000 employees and the increase in pension from Rs 5,810 to Rs 6,210.   With regard to unemployment rate, the Prime Minister pointed out that it stood at 6.9% in 2018 which is one of the lowest since the past fifteen years. On this score, he highlighted that the economic growth rate was at 3.8% for year 2018 while adding that all sectors of the economy comprising entrepreneurial and business fields have regained their momentum.   Speaking on major developmental and infrastructural projects, Prime Minister Jugnauth stated that the Metro Express project marks a major stride in the history of Mauritius and fits in the vision of Government to modernise the country. To this end, he underscored that the first light rail system, starting from Rose Hill to Port Louis will be operational this year. “My vision is that the Metro Express lines will be extended in the four corners of the country in the future”, added the Prime Minister. He also spoke of Government’s investment in the construction works of drains and roads with a view to improving the infrastructure across the country.  As regards the provision of decent dwellings for low income families, he stressed that some 12,000 social housing units will be constructed by end of 2019. Referring to upholding law and order in the country, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Safe City project, being implemented by the Police Force will ensure the security of every citizen with the installation of more than 4,000 surveillance cameras in strategic sites. He also reiterated his relentless determination to combat drug scourge and emphasised on the huge number of drug seizures being effected so as to dismantle these networks. On this score, Prime Minister Jugnauth announced that he will chair the National Drugs and HIV Council which has as objectives to foster a multi-sectoral approach with a view to providing a stronger response to Drugs and HIV; and to come up with concrete measures to minimise the personal, social and economic impact of these social plagues.   He also listed out several projects being implemented for Rodrigues, comprising the extension of the airport and the construction of a new terminal. He also recalled the launch of the fibre optic installation, Mauritius Rodrigues Submarine Cable last November, which will connect Mauritius with Rodrigues. The construction of a runway and a jetty in Agalega was also highlighted by the Prime Minister. Audit de supervision 2017-2024 de l'Agence Erasmus+ France/éducation-formation - Rapport I.G.A. ...

IIEP flux fr && en - Fri, 01/18/2019 - 11:18
