Chikh Békri

Chikh Békri was born in Algeria, on April 28, 1927. From 1962 to 1964 he was Secretary General of the Ministry of Education in the first Algerian Government after independence. His international career as a civil servant included several posts in UNESCO regional offices as well as numerous missions for the World Bank Co-operative Programme. In 1970, he was appointed the First Director of the Regional Office for Education in the Arab States based in Beirut. From 1972 to 1975, he was Assistant Director-General in Paris.

In 1976 he became Director of the Executive Office of the Director-General until 1986 when he was appointed Director of the International Bureau of Education. Mr. Békri is an honorary member of the Algerian Geography and Archaelogical Society.
