Carrara, a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art organized the fourth edition of White Carrara Downtown, a week-long festival that highlights the unique cultural capital of the city and its surroundings. Dedicated to white marble and its creative use, the event aims to enhance the cultural identity of Carrara through an urban museum itinerary punctuated by various experiences such as art installations and performances, exhibitions, theater and opera, and craft workshops open to the public.
Carrara Creative City Award aims to give a concrete contribution to building a universal language by linking culture and education in order to foster a culture of peace through the arts. It offers young sculptors the opportunity to live a period of study and an authentic experience during which they can express their own creativity in an international competition aimed at spreading UNESCO values and principles.
A group of five young sculptors, students of academies of fine arts from different parts of Italy applied to a dedicated call to the Carrara Creative City Award. The finalists took part in a workshop in a historic art and sculpture laboratory/studio of Carrara for a month, during which they worked on their artwork.
