Fugro has signed a partnership agreement with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (IOC-UNESCO) to improve the coordination of and access to global ocean science data.

Oceanthon 2021 is organised on the occasion of the first year of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) and within the framework of the Pre-Conference of the Parties (COP) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The event will take place online from 24th to 26th September 2021.

Just one week after the save-the-date announcement, over 200 participants have registered for the second Ocean Decade Laboratory to be held online from 15-17 September 2021. And hundreds more are expected to join this 48-hour knowledge-sharing marathon with participants from all over the world.

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has renewed its financial support to communication and engagement activities carried out in the context of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), coordinated by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).

From 14-25 June, the Assembly of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO held its 31st Session (virtually). IOC’s 150 Member States took stock of progress in global ocean research and the implementation of the Ocean Decade, setting IOC forward on a new medium-term strategic framework.
