Georges Tohmé

Georges Tohmé is a graduate of the University of Lebanon. In 1969 he received his Doctorate in Natural Sciences from the University of Toulouse. From 1949 until 1963 he held  several professional posts as a teacher. Then, until 1969 he was a director of a secondary school department in comparative methodology of science and education. Between 1961 and 1975, Georges Tohmé was a member of the National Lebanese committee for school programmes. From 1972 until 1977 he was a professor at the Lebanese University, Faculty of Sciences.Between September 1977 and March 1978, Mr. Tohmé was Secretary General of the national Lebanese commission for UNESCO. In 1980 he became Rector of the Lebanese University and he held this post until 1988 when he was appointed the Director of the IBE. For many years he was devoted to the preservation of the "wonderful and irreplaceable diversity" of Lebanese flora and fauna. In 1993, Georges Tohme became president of the Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research.
