On 15 September, Dubai, a UNESCO Creative City of Design since 2017, initiated a series of webinars exploring the potential of creative economy in stimulating growth and innovation, notably in urban settings.
The first webinar, organized in collaboration with Dubai Culture and Art Authority brought together 14 Creative Cities, such as Asahikawa, Bandung, Bangkok, Cebu City, Doha, Istanbul, Kortrijk, Montreal, Querétaro, Saint-Etienne, Seoul and Whanganui. Under the theme “Creative Economy: a stimulate for growth, innovation and culture”, the webinar allowed its 29 participants to share their insights, experiences, innovative ideas, and good practices related to creative economy.
Moreover, the webinar offered participating cities the opportunity to review the different ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted creative economy, as well as discover more about Dubai’s creative economy strategy launched in April 2021. This new strategy aims to establish Dubai as a major international creative hub by placing design at the core of its urban development by 2025.
