“Our Global Mantra”: Kansas City calls for action to empower women across the world
Until the end of March, Kansas City (United States of America), a UNESCO Creative City of Music since 2017, is organizing “Our Global Mantra”, an international campaign to celebrate and share the voices and experiences of women through creative expression.
“I expect the extraordinary and I will find it / I accept the ordinary and it will find me” is the two-line mantra at the origin of this movement. Throughout the month of March, women across the globe are invited to record a 30-second video sharing their translation of the mantra, in their native or any chosen language, to a tune of their composition, to join this growing worldwide campaign. This initiative is aimed at promoting gender equality and women empowerment in alignment with Goal 5 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through music and creativity.
Already bringing together women and girls from more than 10 countries, dancing, speaking and singing the mantra in 17 different languages, Kansas City aims to widen even more the scope of this movement to continue celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity and empower women worldwide.
