Sound Recordings 

The historical sound recordings collection includes radio reports, specially-produced programmes, interviews and other recordings from the late 1940s to 1980s. For example, the UNESCO World Review was launched in 1949 to present developments in the fields of UNESCO interest, to show concrete examples of international cooperation within these areas, and in those of other United Nations Specialized Agencies, and to make those items alive and interesting ("Weekly Radio Review to Start February 19," pg. 3).

IMPORTANT: Recordings are presented, at this time, in their raw digitized format. You may encounter recordings that have a strange sound at the beginning or no sound at all for up to, for example, 30 seconds. Be patient, the programme will start. You can also use the slider at the bottom to move to the beginning of the programme. Enjoy!... What you will hear has probably not been heard since the year it was created.

Please also note that the information you see about each sound recording (i.e., its metadata) is being presented “as is”. It has been extracted from inventories and registers that up until now have existed only on paper. In some cases, important metadata (e.g., date, etc.) may be missing. We aim to improve the quality of the metadata over time.
