UN Adolescent Girls Task Force
|
The United Nations Adolescent Girls Task Force (UN AGTF) was established in 2007 in partnership with the UN Foundation. The impetus for this Group is simple: the UN agencies recognized that one agency alone cannot adequately address the multi-sectoral needs of adolescent girls, yet together greater impact can be made. In March 2010 during the 54th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, as a result of 15-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly (2000), the Task Force launched a UN Joint Statement for Accelerated Efforts to Advance the Rights of Adolescent Girls signed by the heads of the six agencies to guide collective efforts with governments and partners. Providing Opportunities for Women and Disabled Youth in Rural Communities of Pakistan
| UNESCO Islamabad is supporting 150 Community Learning Centres for rural female youth in Pakistan under ONE UN's Cross-Cutting Interventions on Gender Equality. Along with illiterate adult rural females, youth with disabilities has also been integrated in the programme. |

Director UNESCO Pakistan's visit to a Community Learning Centre in Mandi Bahauddin, 29th June, 2011

The CLC was located in the rural outskirts of District Mandi Bahauddin (Punjab Province). Director was briefed about the on-going activities of the CLC. Director met with the members of the CLC Management Committee and took keen interest in the literacy and vocational classes. This CLC was established three months ago and all learners were illiterate rural females, who are now moving towards becoming literate and quite capable of cutting and sewing the clothes as well. The learners showed their hand-made clothes and embroidery work to UNESCO team. The UNESCO team also visited one centre managed by BUNYAD Foundation in the rural area for out-of-school children of primary classes. Image gallery

Every single Goal is directly related to women's rights, and societies where women are not afforded equal rights as men can never achieve development in a sustainable manner. Gender Equality is one of the Eight Millennium Development Goals. |
