National Consultation held for sensitization of stakeholders on SDG-4/ Education 2030

Islamabad - 15 December 2015: UNESCO Islamabad, UNICEF and the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Government of Pakistan jointly organized the first national consultation workshop on Sustainable Development Goal - 4 (SDG) "the Education 2030 Agenda" in Islamabad. The workshop aimed at developing a common understanding on SDG-4 and devising a roadmap and effective strategies for attainment of quality education and goals set for 2030 which were adopted at the World Education Summit in May 2015 in Incheon Republic of Korea this year.

Improving Girls' Primary Education - UNESCO and Government of Pakistan launched Girls' Right to Education Pogramme

Islamabad - 08 October 2015: To improve better access, quality and safe learning environments for girls in the hardest-to-reach areas of the country, UNESCO and the Government of Pakistan launched the Girls' Right to Education Programme for Pakistan worth 7 million USD. The programme aimed at enrolling 50,000 more girls in primary schools of remote areas over the next three years.

In this context, an official launching ceremony was held in Islamabad which was well attended by officials and representatives of the federal, provincial and area Governments of Pakistan, Parliamentarians, United Nations, Civil Society Organizations, Academia, Press and Development Partners. Mr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman, Minister of State for Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training was the Chief Guest at the inaugural occasion. Read more...

Education for All Global Monitoring Report 2015 launched in Islamabad

Islamabad, 22 April 2015: UNESCO Islamabad in collaboration with Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi and other partners organized national launching ceremony of the twelfth and final report of the Global Monitoring Report (GMR). The report is the final in the GMR series.

The Report, Education for All, highlighted a definitive assessment of overall achievements and challenges from 2000-2015, by analyzing each of the six EFA goals agreed by governments in Dakar, Senegal, in 2000.

The launching ceremony of the GMR was held in Islamabad and attended by the Minister of State for Education, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Trainings, Representative and Director UNESCO Islamabad, Director Programs Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi, and other representatives and officials of the Government of Pakistan, civil society organizations, United Nations, academia and media. Read more...

Nomination call for UNESCO-Hamdan Prize 2015-2016

The fourth edition of the UNESCO-Hamdan bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers has opened the call for nominations.

The prize is awarded every two years and it recognizes initiatives that contribute to improving educational practices around the world, with priority given to developing countries and to marginalized and disadvantaged communities.

Deadline for nomination: October 31, 2015

Investing in quality education and teachers crucial to progress and a better society

Islamabad - 2 October 2014: UNESCO, UNICEF, ILO and WFP, in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Government of Pakistan organized a conference here in Islamabad to mark
World Teachers' Day 2014. This year's theme for the Day is "Invest in the future, invest in teachers". In relation to the importance of this observance, the Pakistan Education for All (EFA) Review Report 2015 was also launched during the conference. Read more...

Education is the best investment for sustainable development

Islamabad - 10 September 2014: To fully tap the potential of higher education institutions to meet the present and future needs of Pakistan and make sure the higher education is on track towards sustainable development, COMSATS
Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) in collaboration with UNESCO Islamabad, British Council Pakistan and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) organized an event in Islamabad.
The event, "The World Beyond 2015: Is Higher Education Ready?" brought together experts who shared their opinions and recommendations in regards to the challenges and role of higher education with special reference to the Post-2015 development agenda. Read more...

A powerful testimony by Ms. Mariam Khalique, former teacher of the Pakistani schoolgirl, Malala Yousafzai delivered at a meeting held by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)
in Geneva on 7 July. The meeting was a General Discussion on the Right to Education for Girls and Women aimed at kick starting the Committee's process of developing a "General Recommendation on girls'/women's right to education." Read more...

United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security project launched for the conflict stricken area of D.I.Khan

Islamabad - 29 May 2014: To improve human security by fostering peace and multi-sectoral development initiatives, UNESCO Islamabad launched the Trust Fund for Human Security (TFHS) Project in Islamabad.
The initiative is part of the One UN Programme II (2013-2017) for Pakistan. The project will be implemented over a period of two years with cost of USD 2.1 million in Union Council Musazai Sharif of D.I.Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Read more...

UNESCO lauds effort for achieving MDGs

Islamabad - 29 January 2014: UNESCO Regional Director for Asia and Pacific, Gwang-Jo Kim appreciated Pakistan efforts towards achieving Millennium Development Goals. He was addressing on the occasion of the regional launch event of
the 11th Education for All Global Monitoring Report this year, Teaching and learning: Achieving quality for all, held in Islamabad. The event was attended by ministers and officials of the government of Pakistan, Afghanistan and other delegates and teachers from India, Bangladesh and representatives of the United Nations in Pakistan, civil society organizations, media and representatives of UNESCO.

UNESCO support mainstreaming of girls' access to education in RAHA community

Islamabad - 29 January 2014: UNESCO Regional Director for Asia and Pacific, Gwang-Jo Kim emphasized the need for quality education to the students with improved educational facilities through well trained teachers. He expressed
these remarks on the occasion of Gender and Education Forum in Refugee Affected and Hosting Areas (RAHA) community organized by UNESCO Islamabad. The event was attended by representatives of UNESCO, UNHCR, UNDP, Embassy of Japan, civil society organizations and youth and women besides officials of the government.

UNESCO support education and appreciate efforts for preservation of Gandharan culture

Islamabad - 30 January 2014: UNESCO Regional Director for Asia and Pacific, Gwang-Jo Kim on a one day tour reached Peshawar and attended various events. He expressed UNESCO support for the skills development programme
and barrier free access to learners with disabilities in non formal sector for youths residing in and around the Refugee Affected and Hosting Areas (RAHA II) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA. He appreciated the rich Gandhars culture which is well preserved by the Department of Culture, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during his visit to Peshawar Museum.
