From 31 May to 3 June, the Creative City of Film of Busan (Republic of Korea) will be organizing the third edition of its Intercity Film Festival & Film Production Residency Project, around the theme “Our City – Faces of the Cities We Live in”. The aim of the event is to strengthen and expand cooperation between UNESCO Creative Cities of Film, reason why a Film Production Residency Project is twinned with the event.
A student research team from the University of Missouri Kansas City’s (UMKC) Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design won an award for their poster research and presentation of Comparative Urbanism - a study of the UNESCO Creative Cities. The research was presented as a poster session at the 2019 National Conference of the American Planning Association in San Francisco, California. 6,400 planners attended the annual conference from more the 30 countries.
The third International Youth Forum (IYF3) and Changsha Media Arts Festival were held simultaneously from 31 March to 3 April 2019. In light of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network’s objectives, the events included a high-level forum as well as parallel sessions with the participation of representatives from 13 Creative Cities.
On March 21 2019, in the occasion of World Poetry Day, 15 UNESCO Cities of Literature across the globe were linking up to hold simultaneous events in their respective cities. For instance, around 60 poets who live in Granada and possess different aesthetic approaches, offered a public poetry reading in 25 bookshops around the city.
Art students from Taylor High School, a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet), traveled to Paducah, a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts & Folk Art, for an immersive study tour. The UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) consists of over 11,500 ASPnet member schools in 182 countries working in support of international understanding, peace, intercultural dialogue, sustainable development, and quality education.
When Paducah ceramist and arts educator Mitch Kimball participated in the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen in 2018, he sought to make connections. This networking and representation of Paducah led to a mutual exchange when Paducah Arts Alliance welcomed father/son duo Ma Xinkai and Ma Mingkui for a two-week Artists-in-Residence Programme in Paducah, USA.
From beginning of this year, Busan started to collaborate with Creative Cities of Film in the framework of the Busan International Kids&Youth Film Festival (BIKY), notably through a contest aimed at designing the official poster of the newt edition of the festival. Each city carried out the contest and selected one drawing via their own process. As a result, 8 cities have joined the project, and drawings selected by the participant cities will be included into the 2019 poster and exhibited at the Festival.
Until 30 June, midnight CET, cities worldwide can submit their application to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
On 25 March 2019, Kütahya Adult Education Institute will launch a museum and an exhibition in celebration of the 408th birthday of Evliya Çelebi.
Art & Tech Days is an annual festival dedicated to media arts, technology and digital culture held in Košice, UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts in Slovakia. The festival invites artists, scientists, professionals and entrepreneurs to share their thoughts and knowledge on a particular topic during the festival’s programme, Art & Tech Conference, numerous workshops, networking activities and artistic programme.
