Projects submitted:

Forty percent of the projects submitted concern Africa, 26% Asia and the Pacific, 22% Latin America and the Caribbean, 10% the Arab States and 2% Europe. Thanks to the voluntary contributions made by UNESCO Member States to the IPDC Special Account, US$ 2,5 million are available for allocation to the approved projects, which will provide support to local media organizations, journalists’ associations, community media, media training institutions and journalism departments, in their efforts to promote free, independent and pluralistic media:

Project evaluations

Each year, the IPDC Bureau selects a number of implemented projects to undergo external evaluation. Independent evaluators visit project sites and verify the achievements, paying particular attention to issues of cost-effectiveness and sustainability.

The reports that stem from these evaluations serve as a useful tool for measuring the impact of IPDC projects as well as identifying weaknesses that can be avoided in the future. Priority is given to projects that can potentially provide the most useful information for the identification, designing, selection and implementation of future projects.

Consultations on the safety of journalists

Consultations on the UNESCO Plan on the Safety of Journalists (2012)

The UNESCO Work Plan on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity is prepared in cooperation with Member States. The first draft was sent to UNESCO Member States for their comments in July 2012. The second draft has been prepared taking into account the contributions recieved by Member States since July 2012.
